Sirens in a painting from the 1800's

Sirens, according to the book of Enoch, were the mortal women who tempted the Watcher Angels.

In ancient Greek mythology, sirens were bird-women who lured sailors to their deaths with their beautiful singing. Later the sirens were thought of as mermaids. In many languages, the word for "mermaid" is a cognate of "siren".
